Reasons to use Postico 2

Differences that matter

One client covers PostgreSQL and other engines, from MySQL and SQL Server to Redis, MongoDB and DuckDB. See the supported databases.
Server work is in the free app: Users & Roles with grants down to a column, a Server Dashboard with sessions and slow queries, and VACUUM with the SQL shown first. Postico says it is not designed for these tasks.^{Source 5}
EXPLAIN shows a plan as a diagram, a tree or raw text, and EXPLAIN Compare checks a new plan against a baseline. Both are free.

TablePro’s limits

Greenplum is not among the supported engines.
Redshift and CockroachDB connect, but their table structure is read-only in TablePro.
To change a PostgreSQL column’s position, TablePro writes a rebuild script for you to run. It does not run the script itself.
Postico 2 is sold only as one-time licenses. TablePro offers subscriptions and one-time purchases. Subscriptions lock paid features when they end; the free app keeps working. One-time purchases do not expire.

Switching from Postico 2

TablePro has no importer for Postico. Add each server as a TablePro connection: fill in the connection form, or paste a URL that starts with postgresql:// into File > Import > Import from URL…

If a project keeps its database URL in a .env file or a Prisma schema, File > Import > Open Project Folder… reads it and opens the connection form filled in.
Passwords go into the macOS Keychain. TablePro also reads ~/.pgpass for PostgreSQL connections.
Query history starts fresh in TablePro.

Questions

Does TablePro work with Redshift and CockroachDB like Postico?

Yes, both connect, and their table structure is read-only in TablePro. Greenplum, which Postico also supports, is not among TablePro’s engines.

Is TablePro’s iCloud Sync free?

In the iPhone and iPad app, yes. On the Mac it is part of Starter. Postico 2 syncs server settings through iCloud or Dropbox.

Can I manage roles and sessions in TablePro?

Yes, in the Mac app and for free. Users & Roles grants and revokes privileges with the SQL shown first, and the Server Dashboard lists sessions and can terminate one. Read about server tools.
