Reasons to use TablePlus

It lists engines that TablePro does not support, such as Vertica and Greenplum.^{Source 8Source 3}

Differences that matter

TablePro is open source under the AGPLv3, including the code of its paid features. TablePlus is closed source.^{Source 9}
The free app connects to every supported engine and includes the AI assistant, the MCP server and Safe Mode, with no tab or window limits. Paid plans add features such as Compare & Sync, Query Insights, Data Rewind and iCloud Sync.
The iPhone and iPad app is free, with no in-app purchases and no license. The TablePlus iPhone app has in-app purchases, or comes with a TablePlus license.^{Source 5}
iCloud Sync syncs connections across Macs, iPhones and iPads. It requires Starter on the Mac and is free on iPhone and iPad. TablePlus syncs its connections through a cloud folder you choose, such as Dropbox or iCloud.^{Source 3}Starter plan

TablePro’s limits

TablePro’s separate iPhone and iPad app has fewer features than the Mac app: no AI assistant, MCP server or autocomplete.
TablePro is not a schema designer: its ER diagram is a read-only snapshot of the current schema.
TablePlus licenses keep working after their year of updates. TablePro one-time purchases do not expire. TablePro subscriptions lock paid features when they end; the free app keeps working.

Switching from TablePlus

Import TablePlus connections, including the Setapp edition’s. TablePlus can stay closed, and its files are not changed.

In TablePro, choose File > Import > Import from Other App…
Select TablePlus. Turn on Include passwords to read saved passwords from the macOS Keychain.
macOS asks for your login password once for each saved password. Choose Always Allow on each prompt.
Review the list, decide what happens to any duplicates, and click Import. Groups, SSH tunnels and connection colors come across. A connection to an engine TablePro does not support arrives unchecked.
Before you remove TablePlus, open a connection that had a password to check that it came across.

Saved queries, query history and keyboard shortcuts stay in TablePlus.
A connection set to ask for its password every time arrives set to prompt for the password.

Questions

Can I keep using TablePlus after importing?

Yes. The import only reads TablePlus’s connection files, so both apps keep working with their own copies.

How does TablePro’s speed compare with TablePlus?

No reproducible benchmark is cited here. Performance depends on the query, database, network and computer; native architecture alone does not establish a speed advantage.
